Scratches on glasses : A Remedy

Designer prescription glasses do not come cheap. It is like an investment. But a scratch can ruine it. You should always try to place them in your case or hang them from a neck cord when your are not using them. But what to do once the scratch has occurred?

The first step is to buy basic toothpaste. Be careful that it is smooth and does not contain any lumps or grains. Using a soft cloth such or cotton wall gently apply the toothpaste to either side of the lens. Remember these are designer glasses so be careful. Using the cotton wall spread the toothpaste using gentle circular motions. Continue for around ten minutes. After this period wipe the toothpaste away and place the prescription glasses under a gentle flow of tap water until all the toothpaste is removed. Depending upon the depth of the scratch you may need to repeat these steps two or three times. If you are unable to remove the scratch in this manner it may be worthwhile consulting your optician. Lenses can be removed from most prescription glasses and designer glasses and this means replacing the lens may not be as expensive as you may think.
